What is Skin Needling?

Skin Needling Special: Free Skin Assessment Plus 50% Off Your First Skin Needling Treatment. New Clients Only – Limited Time Offer!

Skin needling (also known as collagen induction therapy (CIT)) was developed by plastic surgeons when they discovered that controlled micro damage to the skin via tiny punctures at certain depths, unleashed the natural and powerful healing properties of the skin. As a response to the penetration of the skin, the body flooded the microscopic puncture holes with new collagen, elastin and blood vessels giving the skin not only a more youthful look but also proved to repair damage to the skin caused by old acne and surgery scars…..an unexpected benefit!

Before the procedure starts a topical anaesthetic can be applied to your skin to ensure a comfortable pain free experience. Skin needling does not feel as bad as it sounds, similar to a hard bristled toothbrush!

Depending on the depth of needle penetration, it is possible to experience pin-point bleeding during the treatment but not ongoing. Temporary redness of the skin occurs for a few hours or a day, depending upon the age of the skin and treatment depth. The less depth the less redness but also the longer it will take to acquire the desired results. So depending on your circumstances and areas treated, the skin needling clinician will vary the treatment to ensure maximum comfort. Some people prefer lighter more frequent sessions others prefer to achieve results as fast as possible.

Visible results of skin rejuvenation are generally seen after just 6-8 weeks following procedure and improve further over time. A course of DermaPen sessions, is usually recommended to achieve optimum results,  however skin improvement is noticeable after just one treatment.

Microscopic wounds stimulate new collagen deposition which may last for up to a year making “top up” treatments a breeze!

Healthy collagen & elastin levels are what gives us our youthful look, visibly reducing unwanted wrinkles, old acne scars, stretch marks, trauma induced scars as well as improving skin texture and tone.

Since this amazingly simple yet powerful revelation, industry has been hard at work to take advance of this natural phenomena producing procedures and equipment to improve patient outcomes.

There are a number of devices that are available for skin needing but the Dermapen® is the clear favourite amongst plastic surgeons and dermal clinicians world wide.  It’s a high powered pen like device comprising of 12 fine disposable needles that can be adjusted for each individual skin concern and area. The needles vibrate vertically at approximately 40 times per second giving a more comfortable experience and the pen like design easily reaches skin around the eyes and nose regions.

Skin Needling results can be seen within a week or even a few days. Your skin naturally heals itself every 45 days, so with a little micro-needling stimulation changes can be dramatic and fast.

Because skin needling does not involve injecting substances deep into the skin, allergic reactions and side-effects are unlikely to occur. Compared to other forms of skin rejuvenation it is minimally invasive, involves little downtime (approx. 24hrs),  stimulates rapid skin healing and requires simple after-care.

To accelerate and enhance the process further, organic serums can be applied while needling to increase the skin’s ability to absorb nutrient’s faster further enhancing the healing process.

At Brunswick Health, we only use high quality organic serums while needling, eliminating any possible side effects caused by harsher cheaper synthetic chemicals that unfortunately have flooded the market due to their low cost.
