Types of Counselling Services Offered

Individual Counselling

Individual counselling consists of meeting one-on-one with an experienced counsellor to discuss your specific concerns in a confidential setting. The aim of therapy is to increase your sense of wellbeing, by providing you with the tools to resolve life problems in a positive manner. We will work collaboratively to; identify your concerns, work through difficult issues, highlight causes, explore options, develop strategies, and increase your self-awareness. To ensure therapeutic goals and actions make sense within the context of your life, your unique experiences will be central to the discussions at all times.  While the work done in a session sets the foundation for change, the work you do outside the session is vitally important to developing new skills and sustaining change.

Online Counselling

Online Counselling is fast becoming an alternative for therapeutic support. You will be communicating via the internet using applications that allow real-time chat, such as Skype or FaceTime. It is not a replacement for traditional therapy, nor is it suitable for all cases, however, it is a very useful tool to explore the issues and dilemmas you may be dealing with. If you are constantly travelling, located in another city or are unable to make it to the clinic, you can receive the same professional care in the comfort of your own environment in confidence. Note: This method is ONLY suitable for Individual Therapy.

Group Therapy

Group therapy is a special form of therapy which a small number of people who are coping or recovering from an issue, meet under the guidance of a professionally trained therapist to facilitate emotional processing for the members of the group. Group members are encouraged to share their experiences, which helps members see what they are going through is universal and that no one is alone.

We offer counselling services for the following groups:

  • Grief and Loss
  • After The Divorce
  • Addictions Recovery
  • Eating Disorders
  • New Parents
  • Anxiety and Stress
  • Sexual Identity Issues
  • Single Parent Families

Support Groups

Support groups are a little different from Group therapy, where people get together in a more informal atmosphere to talk about their current life situations and connect with others for support and friendship. This type of group is not facilitated by Brunswick Health but we can assist in creating connections between people and individuals to help create their own environments to meet and greet those who are going through similar life circumstances, or would like to offer help to someone going through hardship (i.e. adjustment issues, addictions, divorce, loss of a family member or etc.). Contact us and let us know what type of group you would like to gain support from or also give support to.

Psychological Assessments

Psychological assessments is a process of testing that uses a combination of techniques, such as an interview or questionnaire, to help clarify needs by quantifying and evaluating intellectual, cognitive, emotional and behavioural functioning as well as assessing the personality factors that may influence the individual’s ability to function optimally in all areas of their life. It will identify areas of strength and uncover any specific barriers to optimal functioning. Issues related to cognitive delays, social/emotional concerns and mental health concerns are also addressed. A psychological assessment consultant will meet with you to clearly explain the results and discuss specific recommendations.

Psychological assessments are useful for those individuals who are suffering from:

  • Mental Health issues including, depression and anxiety disorders (i.e., social phobia, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), panic disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), etc.)
  • Head trauma
  • Memory problems
  • Personality issues

Workshops are educational forums where you can gain knowledge and the tools on a particular area. They will be conducted by experienced psychological professionals. We will be offering a wide variety of educational workshops and can tailor them to your specific needs. Workshops can also be outsourced to your specific location.
