How to Best Prepare For a Colonic

How to Best Prepare For a Colonic

Please avoid eating for 1.5 – 2 hours before your treatment. Having a full stomach can increase discomfort & sometimes nausea during the treatment, plus it’s less comfortable receiving abdominal massage – which is an important part of your treatment to help release faecal matter.

Avoid fizzy drinks for at least 1 day prior to your treatment. Reducing gas in the bowel will assist in making the treatment more comfortable.

Avoid gas forming foods for at least 1 day prior to your treatment – these may include – wheat products (pasta, bread, biscuits etc.), sugar, protein powders (especially non-plant based protein), meat, dairy, alcohol… not all of these may necessarily be an issue for you but reducing consumption will help minimise gas assisting with an easier colonic.

Hydrate – being adequately hydrated will allow for a more efficient treatment. Aiming for 2 litres per day every day is vital for health but if you know you often don’t drink enough, please make sure prior to treatment (the 24 hours before) you increase your intake as much as possible. Please note however the abdominal massage you’ll receive during your treatment will also stimulate the bladder so don’t drink a large amount just before coming in…

Fresh vegetable or fruit juices can be helpful in both increasing hydration and by also giving a boost of antioxidants & phytonutrients, which will support your body during the treatment.

What happens if I don’t have time to do all the suggested prep?

Our colonic hydrotherapists are highly trained & experienced practitioners who have all worked with a vast array of different clients that arrive in various states of good, less good & no preparation – your hydrotherapist will be able to tailor the treatment to support your needs on the day.
