About this product
It's shorter than the Thoracic Denneroll and flat on top, so the stretch through a rounded upper back is gentler and less focused. It's designed as the step before the Thoracic Denneroll.
Who it's for
The Retrainer is designed for an increased rounding of the upper back, the thoracic kyphosis, along with the forward head posture and rounded shoulders that often come with it. It's the introductory device for the early stages, when the peaked Thoracic Denneroll is too strong to start on.
It can sit at the upper, mid or lower thoracic spine, and your chiropractor decides which from a posture assessment and, where needed, X-rays.
How a session works
- Use it on the floor or a firm bench. A bed or a thick, spongy yoga mat is too soft for the stretch to work.
- Place it behind you, lower yourself onto it at the spot your chiropractor showed you, and relax over it.
- A slight bend in the knees is recommended at first. As you get used to it, straighten your legs for the most effect.
- Start at 3 minutes and add about a minute each session, building to 15–20 minutes by around the 17th session. If you can't reach a session's time, stay at it until you can.
- To get up, roll onto your side, remove the device and settle for a moment first.
- How often you use it, per day or per week, is set by your chiropractor.
Moving on to the Thoracic Denneroll
Once you're comfortable on the Retrainer, your chiropractor can move you to the Thoracic Denneroll, whose peak gives a more localised, stronger stretch.

Questions
Buying from Brunswick Health
Ordering, fittings, health fund claiming, returns and postage.
How do I buy something from the Brunswick Health shop?
Add it to your cart and pay online, or call (03) 9380 8099 and reception will take the order over the phone. At the payment step you choose how it reaches you: collect from the clinic at 1/68 Melville Road, Brunswick West, the same day for anything on the shelf, otherwise from the next business day, or have it posted anywhere in Australia by standard or express post. Anything not on the shelf is usually available within a few days.
Which products can be fitted at the clinic?
Moon boots and CAM walkers, those are the ones fitted here, and the fitting is what makes the boot work: the size, the boot height, the strap tension and the heel wedging, checked against how you actually walk in it. It is a short appointment of its own with a chiropractor, physiotherapist or podiatrist, booked when you order: $78, claimable on any extras policy that includes chiropractic, physiotherapy or podiatry. Buying the boot on its own is fine too, which is what most people outside Melbourne do. Everything else in the shop is sold as it comes, the measurements on each product page are what you choose from.
Can I claim products on my private health fund?
Ring your fund and ask before you buy, appliance cover is written policy by policy, and your fund is the only one that can read yours. Ask two things: which of these items your policy pays a benefit on, and what conditions come with it. The conditions are where funds differ most, and they are worth hearing in your fund's own words: one will pay on a CAM moon boot only when a podiatrist fits it, another pays whichever way you buy it. Have the product name and the price in front of you when you call. What the clinic does is give you what the fund asks for, an itemised receipt with the practitioner's item code on it, at the counter or by email.
Do I need an appointment to buy a moon boot?
Not to buy one. The boot can be bought here on its own for $115, over the counter or posted to you. You do need one to have it fitted: the fitting is an appointment of its own with a chiropractor, physiotherapist or podiatrist, booked when you order. It is $78, claims on any extras policy that includes chiropractic, physiotherapy or podiatry, and it sets the height and wedging and checks how you walk in it. Which boot suits you, tall or short, depends on where the injury is, so call (03) 9380 8099 before you order if you are not sure, wherever you are.
Can I prepay an appointment for someone else?
Yes. Add the appointment to your cart and put the name of the person attending in at checkout. Your receipt comes back to you, and the time is theirs to choose. Prepaying settles the fee rather than holding a slot, so they book online or call (03) 9380 8099 whenever suits, and there is nothing to pay at the visit.
Can I return a product?
Unused products in their original condition and packaging, with proof of purchase, can generally be returned within a reasonable period. Items that cannot be resold for hygiene reasons once opened, continence products, socks, insoles, usually cannot be, unless faulty. If a product is faulty or does not do what it was said to do, your Australian Consumer Law rights apply regardless of the packaging. The full refund policy is on this site.
Do you post products?
Yes, anywhere in Australia. Standard postage is $16.95 and express is $25.00, whatever is in the box, and you pick one at the payment step. Pay before 6pm on a weekday and your order is lodged with Australia Post the same day. From there it's 5 to 7 days with Australia Post on standard and 2 on express. Collecting from the clinic is free. Plenty of it is on the shelf, a moon boot, for one, and goes home with you the same day; anything else is in from the next business day. Ring (03) 9380 8099 before you make the trip and reception will check the item and the size are here, and have it waiting at the counter. A saliva hormone kit goes by Australia Post too, an estimated 2 to 6 business days after dispatch on standard or 1 to 3 on express. The kit comes to you and the sample goes to the laboratory. Hair mineral testing has no kit to post: you cut the sample at home and send it in.
