Dr Voula Roumel, chiropractor at Brunswick Health in Brunswick West

Dr Voula Roumel practised as a chiropractor for over three decades and still considers her clinical years one of the great privileges of her life.

Her interest in the human body began long before chiropractic. As a teenager she represented Australia in volleyball in 1979, and the experience of training, competing, and recovering at an elite level made her fascinated by how the body works — how it responds to injury, how it adapts under load, and how often it heals itself when given the right conditions. That fascination shaped a belief she still holds today: the body is a self-regulating, self-healing system, and most ill health comes from lifestyle choices that get in the way of its natural processes rather than support them.

She began her studies with a Human Movement degree in 1980, but it was a chance meeting with a group of chiropractic students that crystallised her direction — their philosophy of working with the body rather than overriding it aligned exactly with what she already believed. After completing her five-year Chiropractic degree at RMIT University, she opened her first practice in Byron Bay. Paradise was wonderful, but lifelong family and friendships drew her back to Melbourne, and in 1990 she founded Brunswick Health.

Over the years, Brunswick Health has grown into a curated network of seven allied health clinics in Brunswick West, built on a simple principle: only work with the best practitioners — people whose dedication to genuinely helping others makes going to work feel less like work.

Current Role

After 35+ years in practice, Dr Voula no longer sees patients directly. Her current role is leading Brunswick Health’s strategic direction and operations across all several clinics in the network. She works closely with the practitioners across the network to ensure each clinic maintains the evidence-based, patient-first approach she built the practice on.

Day-to-day clinical care at Brunswick Health is delivered by a curated team of independently AHPRA-registered practitioners. For chiropractic care, patients are seen by Dr Kenneth Taylor, Dr Hamilton Mack, and Dr Beau Billett.

Areas of Focus

Dr Voula’s current professional focus is on: – Strategic leadership of the Brunswick Health network – Mentoring practitioners across the clinics – Operational and clinical-quality oversight – Patient-experience design and care-pathway integration – Educational content development on natural healthcare and lifestyle health

She maintains her AHPRA registration and continues professional development to stay current with the chiropractic profession, even though she no longer treats patients.

Why she still does it

After more than 35 years, Dr Roumel could comfortably step back entirely. She doesn’t, because she still believes — every day — that natural healthcare changes lives for the better, and she wants to make sure Brunswick Health’s clinics keep delivering on that promise long after she founded it.
