How she got here

Her interest in the human body began long before chiropractic. As a teenager she represented Australia in volleyball in 1979, and training, competing and recovering at that level made her curious about how the body works — how it responds to injury, how it adapts under load, and how often it heals itself when the conditions are right. That curiosity became a belief she still holds: the body is largely self-regulating, and a good deal of ill health comes from getting in the way of that rather than supporting it.

She began with a Human Movement degree in 1980. A chance meeting with a group of chiropractic students settled her direction — their approach of working with the body rather than overriding it matched what she already thought. After five years of chiropractic study at RMIT University she opened her first practice in Byron Bay. Paradise was wonderful, but family and friendships drew her back to Melbourne, and in 1990she founded Brunswick Health.

Brunswick Health grew from there into seven allied health services under one roof, on a principle she still applies to every appointment she makes: choose people whose dedication to genuinely helping others makes going to work feel less like work.

What she does now

Dr Roumel no longer sees patients. She leads Brunswick Health's strategic direction and operations across the network, and works with the practitioners at each clinic to keep the evidence-based, patient-first approach she built the practice on. Her focus is on mentoring, clinical-quality oversight, how care pathways fit together, and the educational writing across these sites.

She maintains her AHPRA registration and continues her professional development to stay current with the profession, though she does not treat.

Why she still does it

Dr Roumel could step back entirely. She doesn't, because she still believes natural healthcare changes lives for the better, and she wants Brunswick Health to keep delivering on that long after she founded it.
